The strength, durability and flexibility of steel results in its use in most modern buildings. However, in situations involving extremely high temperatures, a great amount of the structure in steel is lost and therefore becomes very vulnerable to collapsing, bending, and buckling in the event of fire. This emphasizes the importance of fire protection in modern day building structures.
