I recently had the honor of photographing Aswathi Arun, a dedicated Kuchipudi dancer and instructor, alongside her sister, Revathi, for the Revolutionary Dancers Project. This project celebrates the artistry, diversity, and journeys of dancers, and Aswathi’s story deeply resonated with our vision. Her relationship with Kuchipudi began in childhood, spurred on by her mother, despite her own initial reluctance. What began as a journey rooted in her mother’s insistence blossomed into a passion that defines Aswathi today. She now runs Kuchipudi with Aswathi in Purchase, NY, where she inspires the next generation to embrace and cherish this ancient dance form."
