D4 items have entered a very different phase in Season 14. The Mythic system is no longer based on Mythic being a completely separate rarity. Instead, Mythic functions as an upgraded Item Quality, allowing regular Unique items to reach Mythic quality through targeted drops or crafting.
That means D4 items are no longer just about finding the rarest possible drop. Players have more control over their progression, and the removal of the strict one-crafted-Mythic restriction makes it possible to work toward several powerful upgrades for the same character.
Pick the Upgrade That Changes Your Build
The best way to approach the new system is to think about function rather than rarity.
The Grandfather is a strong target for players who want to maximize weapon scaling and critical damage. If your build already revolves around powerful critical hits, this Mythic can have a major impact on high-level Pit performance.
El'Druin, Sword of Justice serves a different purpose. Builds that rely on repeated abilities and short cooldowns can benefit greatly from its ability-focused value.
These two examples show why blindly chasing the most famous Mythic is not always efficient. The item needs to match the way your character actually plays.
Harlequin Crest Remains a Safe Choice
Harlequin Crest is one of the easiest Mythics to justify because it has broad applications.
Its extra skill ranks can improve many builds, while its defensive benefits make it useful when moving into harder content. It is also a comfortable choice for players who expect to experiment with several setups during the season.
Unlike a highly specialized item, Harlequin Crest does not force you to build around one narrow mechanic. That flexibility makes it particularly attractive for players who have not completely settled on their final endgame configuration.
When Ring of Starless Skies Makes Sense
Resource management can quietly become one of the biggest limitations in an otherwise strong build.
Ring of Starless Skies is designed to help with that problem. Its resource cost reduction and attack speed benefits can make resource-hungry builds feel smoother, especially when they rely on frequent attacks and abilities.
If you regularly find yourself waiting for resources before continuing your rotation, this ring deserves consideration. If resource generation is already comfortable, however, another Mythic may provide a more meaningful improvement.
Consider Defensive Needs Too
Melted Heart of Selig has a more specialized role among the major Mythic targets.
Rather than focusing primarily on offensive output, it can help certain characters survive dangerous encounters by turning resources into additional defensive value.
This can be extremely useful for players pushing difficult content where one mistake or large incoming hit ends a run. But it also comes with a trade-off, so it should be evaluated against the actual needs of your build.
A defensive Mythic is only valuable if the additional survivability outweighs what you give up offensively.
Farm With a Specific Objective
After deciding what you want, use Season 14's farming systems efficiently.
Pandemonium Ruptures and Deathtoll Chambers can help you collect Superior Lair Keys. These keys allow you to target The Corrupted Reaper, which has a significantly boosted direct Mythic drop rate.
Belial remains another useful destination for players seeking naturally dropped Iconic Mythics. Running these targets repeatedly gives your farming a clearer purpose than jumping randomly between activities.
The most efficient routine is usually the one you can repeat comfortably. There is little value in choosing a theoretically perfect activity if your build takes too long to clear it.
Turn Duplicates Into Progress
One of the most useful habits in the current system is dealing with unwanted Mythics immediately.
If you receive a duplicate that has no purpose in your current or planned builds, the Horadric Cube can recycle it into materials for future attempts. This means a disappointing drop can still move your progression forward.
Target slot crafting provides another option. Spare Pandemonium Fragments and suitable 850+ Uniques can be used at the Jeweler to force a random Mythic for a particular equipment slot.
Although the resulting Mythic is still random, controlling the slot makes the process more focused than completely random crafting.
Chase Progress, Not Rarity
The most useful Mythic is the one that improves your character in a noticeable way. For some players, that means The Grandfather and its offensive scaling. For others, it could be El'Druin's cooldown benefits, Harlequin Crest's versatility, Ring of Starless Skies' resource support, or Melted Heart of Selig's defensive value.
Season 14 gives players more freedom to build several Mythic upgrades instead of stopping after one crafted item. That makes long-term progression more flexible, but it also makes good resource management more important.
Set a clear target, build your farming loop around it, and recycle gear that no longer serves a purpose. If you are specifically looking to improve your rune-based setup before returning to endgame farming, buy diablo 4 runes can be one way to fill that particular gap without wasting your main farming resources.
