Arc Totems are worth building toward, but they are not the thing to force on a new character at level 1. That is where plenty of league starts go wrong. Grenades carry the early game with less fuss, better coverage, and far fewer gear checks. You can keep moving, throw into a pack, and let the next group walk into the blast. While you level, a little POE 2 Currency goes a long way when spent on resistances, a decent weapon, or a Spirit piece that fixes an awkward slot. The goal is not to buy a finished character on day one. It is to reach maps with enough life, Energy Shield, and damage that every upgrade feels useful.
Level With Grenades First
Grenades feel good almost as soon as Cluster Grenades become available around level 14. Their clear is practical rather than fancy. Toss them ahead, keep running, and most normal packs disappear before they become a problem. Tight hallways are easy, but open zones are where the setup really earns its place. You are not stopping to aim at every target. Mirage Archer helps as well, especially during bosses or events where enemies keep arriving from the sides. It adds pressure while you reposition, which matters more than people sometimes admit. A campaign run can be done at a solid pace with this setup, including useful side content, the Act 4 Grand Expedition, and the first two Ascendancy unlocks. Seven hours is possible for experienced players, though there is no need to chase a timer if you are learning the route.
Make the Switch at the Right Time
Arc Totems come into their own closer to level 75, after you have three Ascendancy points and a passive tree that can actually support them. Before that point, the character often feels stretched. You need Spirit for the supporting effects, mana to cast comfortably, enough defences to stand through rough map packs, and proper spell scaling. Trying to swap too soon can leave you with weaker clear than Grenades and a boss setup that still does not feel settled. Stick with the levelling skill until the pieces are in place. Once they are, Arc Totems offer a calmer mapping style. Drop the totems, move around incoming attacks, and let Arc chain through nearby targets. It is a nice change of pace after the constant throwing and running of the campaign.
Spend the First Upgrades Carefully
A modest opening budget, around 10 Exalted Orbs, can get this version moving. Start with the items that solve several problems at once. A wand with +4 to spell skills, cast speed, and spell damage is a major jump in output. It does not need every perfect modifier; a strong base with two useful rolls can carry you for quite a while. Spirit is the other big checkpoint. Aim for roughly 225 total Spirit, and look for a Sceptre with 165 or more if the market allows it. Some early drops can roll much higher, so check them before tossing them aside. A +2 spell amulet is excellent, but early prices can be rough. A +1 amulet is completely fine while you put resources into your weapon, Sceptre, and defences. Rings should patch mana, cast speed, and resistances. On armour, Energy Shield, Spirit, movement speed, and resists are the stats that keep the build from feeling flimsy.
Use the Passive Tree With Some Flexibility
The Split Personality Templar jewel gives this character a handy way to clean up its passive tree later on. During levelling, it is normal to take connecting nodes just to reach a useful cluster. Do not worry if the route looks a bit messy at first. When the jewel is equipped, revisit those paths. Points that only existed to bridge one section of the tree can often be refunded and moved into better Energy Shield, mana, or spell-damage options. That small reshuffle can change how the build feels in maps. You may suddenly have enough mana to cast without pauses, or enough Energy Shield to survive the hits that used to send you back to town. Keep an eye on naturally dropped helmets and body armour with 50 or more Spirit, too. They are often better temporary choices than an expensive purchase with only one attractive stat.
Final Thoughts
This route works because it does not pretend one skill has to do every job from the opening zone onward. Grenades handle the campaign quickly and cheaply, while Arc Totems take over when your character has the Spirit, passives, and Ascendancy progress to support them. Cap resistances before chasing another damage roll, and do not drain your whole stash for an early +2 amulet. If you are comparing upgrades, Path of Exile 2 Orbs for sale can help fill a specific gap, but the smarter move is still choosing the item that improves several parts of the build at once. With a good wand, enough Spirit, and a tidier passive tree, the build is ready to settle into early maps and grow from there.
